Last year Abraham Quintanilla & Co. launched this boxset that was suppose to be the end-all and be-all collector's music set for hard-to-the-core Selena fans. But, upon closer inspection, the only "new" material inside the box was some booklet that contained rehashed liner notes. All the tunes, or lo que importa, were previously released tracks. The boxset did come with some wearable pendant but, needless to say, a true Selena fan wasn't getting anything they hadn't already heard.
Buuut gueeess what? Legit, unedited Selena music is coming our way! Or so says Abraham Quintanilla, Selena's dad:
"I own 5 Selena tape masters from pre-EMI times. There's a total of 50 [unedited] songs. We picked 10 of those songs and we're currently working on refreshing the music. We want to rejuvenate their sound, bring them up-to-date."
The music was recorded when Selena was in her mid-teens and her brother, A.B. Quintanilla, is managing the production. A reporter who heard "Soy Amiga," the first cut, said it sounded like cumbia-pop á la Kumbia Kings, which totally makes sense.
And don't worry about the remaining 40 tracks because those will be released, too. A total of 5 CD's, each containing 10-songs, will be launched at some point or another. For now, the first CD is scheduled to be released late this year or early 2012.
We're not gonna lie to kick it: we're HUGE Selena fans and this is totally rocking our world. Hopefully them "reworks" won't sound like shit.
